How much does a therapy session cost in Panama?

Written by Equipo ZorroCare · Updated

Short answer

The price of a therapy session in Panama depends on the type of professional, whether it is online or in person, the session length, and whether it is individual, couples or family therapy. On ZorroCare each professional shows the total price of their sessions on their profile, so you can compare before you book.

How much does a therapy session cost in Panama?

There is no single rate. Two people can pay very different amounts for a session of the same length depending on who they see and how. Below we explain what moves the price so you know what you are comparing.

What makes a session cost more or less?

The most common factors:

  • Type of professional. A clinical psychologist, a psychiatrist, a family therapist and a counselor have different training and markets, and that usually shows in the fee. If you are not sure who you need, read our guide on psychologist vs. psychiatrist.
  • Experience and specialization. A professional with many years of practice, or advanced training in a specific approach (for example trauma or couples therapy), may charge more.
  • Format. Online and in-person sessions can be priced differently. In person may include office costs; online saves travel. More in online or in-person therapy.
  • Length. Many sessions last about 60 minutes, though some services are shorter (30 minutes) or longer (90 minutes), and each professional sets their own. Always compare the price per full session, not per hour.
  • Type of therapy. Individual, couples and family therapy are priced differently because preparation time and session complexity differ.
  • Office location. For in-person sessions, the area of the city also matters.

Is the price I see per hour or per session?

On ZorroCare, the price on each professional's profile is the total price of the session shown, not an hourly rate. That lets you compare without doing math. Also check the length listed next to the service.

Do I have to pay a deposit to book?

It depends on the professional. Some ask for a deposit to confirm the booking; others confirm right away. When there is a deposit, it is part of the session price and is due 24 hours after booking or 12 hours before the session, whichever comes first; if a card deposit is not paid by then, the appointment is cancelled automatically and nothing is charged.

Cancellation rules also affect your real cost. If you cancel more than 24 hours ahead, everything you paid is refunded. If you cancel within the 24 hours before the session or do not attend, the professional keeps the deposit and anything you paid beyond it is refunded. If the professional cancels, you get a full refund. The details are in the cancellation policy.

Who issues the invoice?

The professional provides and sells the service, and issues the invoice. When you pay by card through ZorroCare, you receive a payment confirmation, which is not a tax invoice. More in payments and billing.

Does my insurance cover therapy?

Some health policies include mental health coverage and some do not. Ask your insurer which type of professional it recognizes, whether it requires a medical referral, and whether it reimburses online sessions. ZorroCare cannot confirm what your policy covers.

How do I compare prices without getting it wrong?

  1. Fix the format first (for example, individual online).
  2. Compare the total price of sessions of similar length.
  3. Check the deposit and the cancellation policy.
  4. Read the full profile: training, approach, languages and availability. A lower price is not automatically better or worse; what matters is a good fit with you.
  5. If you do not know where to start, the guided matcher suggests professionals based on what you need.

What if the price is a barrier?

Talk to the professional before ruling out therapy. Some offer sessions of different lengths or space appointments further apart. We cannot promise discounts, but asking is reasonable.
